The Detroit Pistons should be hunting a trade like this

The chances of Curry being traded to the Lakers are slim and none, but Trajan Langdon has held onto cap space to make this exact kind of deal.

In it, the Pistons send out nothing and take back Dennis Schroder, Christian Wood and two second-round picks for use of their cap space.

Schroder can still play and is the exact kind of veteran point guard that the Pistons could use coming off their bench, as right now they really only have Jaden Ivey and Marcus Sasser, two players who are not really point guards.

Christian Wood may be able to crack into the power forward rotation, especially if there were any injury.

Either way, both guys are on expiring deals, and in the case of Schroder, could almost certainly be flipped at the deadline for more second-round picks.

These picks are not great, but given the limitations inflicted by the second apron, second rounders will be more valuable as teams try to avoid the guaranteed money of late first-round picks.

Also, given Langdon’s history of finding players in the second round, the next Herb Jones, Naji Marshall or Jose Alvarado could be waiting for the Pistons with one of those picks.

This particular trade is unlikely to happen but it offers a glimpse of the future, as the Pistons kept back that cap space for a reason and will eventually use it to take on some minor assets.

It’s not exciting, but these minor moves will eventually lead up to something bigger down the line for Detroit.
