There is only one word to describe the end of the 2023-24 season for the Detroit Pistons: Ugly.

They were hammered by the Knicks again last night in a game that was over before the first quarter. For the second straight game, the Pistons failed to score 20 points in the first quarter, which is not surprising considering their rotation currently looks like a mediocre G-League team.

The horrible Washington Wizards won their third straight last night, giving them a commanding two game lead over the Pistons in the battle for the worst record in the league. The Pistons have sent in the tanks, and this is one battle they intend to win.

Even winning three straight would seem like a miracle, as the Pistons haven’t achieved that modest goal since the 2021-22 season. It has only happened once in the entire Troy Weaver era in case you were wondering how the “restoration” was going.

When three in a row seems like a pipe dream, something has gone terribly array. The Pistons will be lucky to win another game this season and are breaking some ugly records along the way.

They already tied the worst losing streak in league history, have used the most players in franchise history and will likely be the worst team in franchise history.

Detroit is being generous to the other teams as well, as Donte DiVincenzo broke the Knicks record for 3-pointers in a game while hitting 11 last night on his way to 40 points. He’s averaging 15 a game on 40 percent shooting from long range.

The Knicks signed DiVincenzo to a team-friendly 4 year/$50 million deal in free agency while the Pistons were trading all of their cap space away for Joe Harris. Congrats Donte! Glad Detroit could help you into the record books.

Another Detroit Pistons’ losing streak

The loss was the Pistons’ 7th in a row, the 4th time this season they have lost at least six in a row to go along with a number of three and four game streaks.

We’ll have to see if Cade Cunningham and Jalen Duren are going to be shut down for the season, but if they are, it’s hard to see the Pistons winning another game, as the lineup they are trotting out might be the worst of the last four seasons.

With 10 games left, there is a good chance the Detroit Pistons are going to finish the season on a 17-game losing streak, which would be the third longest of the season in the NBA including their own 28-game masterpiece. Only an 18-game streak from the Spurs would keep them from having the two longest losings steaks in the league this season.

Sing it with me: U-G-L-Y, you ain’t got no alibi...
