It was not a fun time when the Detroit Pistons were going through a 28-game losing streak.
It started with the jokes and just about everyone on social media had one, including Pistons fans. Call it a coping mechanism.
Then came the pity, which was even worse, as Detroit briefly became America's team as fans around the league sarcastically cheered for them to finally end the streak.
Pistons fans have long memories and we don't forget when someone slights us, and you better believe we keep receipts.
The Pistons find themselves in an unfamiliar position right this moment, as they are currently not the worst team in the NBA, a title that now belongs to the Washington Wizards, but for how long?
Kyle Kuzma, the Detroit Pistons and "that" team
Many of us remember when Flint native Kyle Kuzma got in on the action, posting that nobody wants to be "that" team in regards to losing during the Pistons during the streak.
It was ridiculous from the beginning, as the Wizards have never been much better and are arguably in far worse shape than Detroit when it comes to their rebuild. They don't have a clear star and have two players in their starting five making well over $20 million per season, one of whom is Jordan Poole, who has one of the worst contracts in the league and is putting up numbers closer to Killian Hayes than Cade Cunningham.
The Wizards are 9-50 on the season and have lost 13 in a row. Congrats, Kuz, your Wizards are now "that" team.
Ironically, if they were to keep losing, their chance for a 28th straight loss would come against the Pistons, talk about the misery Superbowl.
This is hardly anything to brag about, as the Pistons have yet to crack double-digit wins on the season with just 24 games remaining and play the Cavaliers tonight, so will likely be right back to the bottom with the Wizards by the end of today.
But for a brief, shining moment, the Detroit Pistons are not "that" team and have climbed out of the cellar high enough to at least look down on one team. Let's hope it lasts.
This is not gloating or talking trash, it's more pointing out the ridiculousness of doing so when you also suck. But I still have love for Kuzma, and who knows, one day he may join his hometown team, hopefully just about the time the Pistons need a player just like him to push them in contention for a title.
