Will all of the young Detroit Pistons be on the roster by the end of next season?

When Troy Weaver took over as GM of the Detroit Pistons, he immediately put his stamp on the team by gutting the roster and getting rid of everyone that was on it.

Trajan Langdon has not taken that approach so far, as unlike Weaver, he did inherit some young and unproven talent to develop. Because of that, he played it relatively safe this summer, taking on veterans who can shoot on short-term contracts.

But as far as the future is concerned, no one is safe, as Langdon only drafted one of the players on the current roster and could send young players packing if they don't match his vision or aren’t clear fits for the long term.

Bleacher Report recently ran an article in which they predicted all of the players that would end up in the rumor mill this season and there was only one Pistons player on the list.

Jaden Ivey named as Detroit Pistons player most likely to be traded

Ivey didn’t appear until the “Honorable Mention” section of the article, so B/R wasn’t saying that a trade is imminent.

“Teams with new leadership, like the Detroit Pistons and Charlotte Hornets, may end up feeding the rumor mill as their directions coalesce. Some NBA sources wonder if Jaden Ivey is part of Detroit's long-term plan.”

When you look at the roster as currently constructed it makes sense, as Ivey is not the high-volume shooter or stout defender you’d love to have next to Cade Cunningham in the backcourt.

That certainly doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a future with the team, but if you are talking about using him as a backup or don't think the fit is there, then you may as well trade him before he is due a hefty extension or before his trade value dips.

The opposite could happen as well and can’t be ruled out, as Ivey has talent and could make a huge leap this season with better coaching and players around him.

I don’t think it’s a given that Ivey is traded this season, but with extensions looming for both him and Duren next summer and with Ausar Thompson and Ron Holland in subsequent offseasons, the Pistons are going to have to pick and choose which young guys they want to keep.

Expect plenty of Jaden Ivey trade rumors this season, especially if either he or the Pistons get off to a slow start.
