The Detroit Pistons shouldn't prioritize Troy Weaver

The most dangerous thing to a rebuilding team is a desperate GM who thinks they need to make a splashy move to save their job.

That's why Troy Weaver's job security should not be a factor at the trade deadline. If Tom Gores plans to keep him and allow him to give it one last shot this summer, then he needs to make that clear.

If he's not sure, then fire him now and let the next group handle the cap space the Pistons have coming.

What we can't have is a GM in limbo who feels compelled to do something to satisfy angry fans who want major changes. This is how you end up trading for a broken-down Blake Griffin. This is why you're hearing the Pistons come up in rumors around Zach LaVine.

The Pistons' best bet might be to wait until the draft lottery, hope to god they get the first pick and then use it to make a splashy trade on draft day. That is less likely to happen if Troy Weaver thinks he has to do something right away, so his future with the franchise should not be a factor.
