Pistons trading for OG Anuoby

Anunoby is a guy the Pistons should pursue, but as Edwards III said, they will have plenty of competition.

It's also unclear what it would take to get him, and if there is a bidding war for his services, Detroit might not have the best offer. It would likely have to involve some combination of young players and a future draft pick, but if Toronto is rebuilding they might prioritize picks over players and the Pistons don't have them to trade.

There's also the issue of Anunoby's contract, which only has a player option left on it. The Pistons would have to be very sure that Anunoby was at all interested in staying in Detroit for the long term, which would undoubtedly take a max contract. Even then, he may not see Detroit as his best option, so it would be risky to give up a player like Jaden Ivey for a half-season rental when the team is nowhere near being competitive.

Perhaps a max contract and the promise of a featured role would be enough to get Anunoby to stay, but that's a lot of risk for a fringe all-star.

If you're the Pistons, you're going to end up overpaying for a free agent one way or another, so I'd jump at it if there were wink wink assurances that Anunoby was open to a long-term deal.
