The Detroit Pistons need big changes, and everything should be on the table this summer.

They have a top five pick and several young players to use as trade bait, but they also have over $60 million in cap space, most in the NBA, so the Pistons could fill some of their open roster spots with free agents.

A shocking number of the available ones are players who have played in Detroit and some of them make sense as possibilities this summer.

8 Former Detroit Pistons the team could re-sign this summer

Reggie Jackson: Player option, $5.2 million

The 34-year-old Jackson is coming off another solid season for the Denver Nuggets in which he averaged 10.2 points and 3.8 assists per game in 22 minutes. There is a good chance that Jackson will just exercise his player option and go back to Denver, and why not? He has a solid role on a championship-caliber team that suits him well.

But the Detroit Pistons will be looking for a veteran backup point guard this summer, so if he does opt out and test free agency, there might be some mutual interest in a reunion. It’s far more likely that he stays in Denver and chases another ring.

Monte Morris: Unrestricted free agent

Morris was supposed to be the steadying veteran point guard off the bench for the Detroit Pistons this season, but injuries limited him to just six games for Detroit. When he’s healthy and playing well, Morris fits the bill, as he can defend a little and is just under 40 percent from 3-point range for his career.

We didn’t see much of that Morris this season, though he did shoot the ball well after being traded to Minnesota, hitting over 42 percent of his 3-point shots. Morris likely cost himself some money in free agency, as his scoring average was half of what it was last season. If Detroit is still seeking a backup, Morris could be a solid buy-low option who could at least fill the 3rd point guard spot and maybe more if he has a bounce-back year.
