Mike Muscala: Unrestricted free agent

One of the weirdest parts of this season was the "Mike Muscala Effect" that the Pistons enjoyed for a brief period. Muscala was good for the Detroit Pistons, at least I think he was, or it could have been that the bench was so atrocious before that anyone would have been an upgrade.

It's far more telling that Muscala couldn’t get off the bench for a good team in OKC, so if the Pistons were going this route, it would have to be as a third center on a minimum deal, as they need bigger upgrades defensively than Muscala would provide.

He’s a big who can spread the floor, so Muscala will get a job, but at this point in his career he’s better served as an emergency backup, mentor and victory cigar.

Andre Drummond: Unrestricted free agent

Drummond is still one of the best rebounders in the NBA, which he proved again this season, grabbing nine per contest in just 17 minutes per game. Drummond would certainly be an upgrade from Wiseman but doesn’t have the skills they’ll be looking for in another center, which is rim protection and shooting ability.

It’s ironic to see so many Pistons fans clamoring for Drummond this offseason after he’s been booed at home games for some reason. He was a nice story this season for the Bulls, but doesn’t offer the skills the Pistons need. As a third center, he’d be great, but I’d hope for more impactful upgrades than a guy who rebounds and doesn’t do much else, as the Pistons already have one of those in Jalen Duren.
