Priority Number 5: Sign a defensive minded big in FA

Coming in as Detroit’s final priority this offseason, they must find a defensive minded big. Whether that big is to be paired with Jalen Duren or not, depending on if Duren is moved to achieve priority four, the Pistons desperately need an anchor down low. They have not had someone to alter opposing offenses in years and as a result, teams have feasted in the paint against us.

I listed this specifically from free agency because I think Detroit can land someone who achieves this without needing a trade. They can likely identify someone who is less of a star, but still gets the job done and can be lured with a large, possibly overpaid, contract. Nic Claxton comes to mind at first, but from all reports thus far, Detroit is not in the running to land the young, well-balanced big man at the moment. You could sacrifice some defensive ability and target someone such as Isaiah Hartenstein, but ideally Detroit can find a Jonathan Isaac type player.
