4 Hot takes about the upcoming Detroit Pistons season

4. Detroit improves their wins from last season by 10, but still fall well short of a play-in. They are, however, rewarded with a high lottery pick, opposite of the last few years. 

Detroit’s schedule is going to be extremely tough. There is a very good possibility that they open the year going 0-7, as each of their first seven opponents are expected contenders. With that being said, it’s next to impossible to be worse than last season. They haven’t even played a game and you can bet the house on them being better. The roster alone is far and away better than last year, plus the coaching staff is much better which should help the improvement of our young guys already in the rotation. 

Still, hot take number four is that, while Detroit is all-around better this year, they still will only add 10 wins to their win total from last year, and fall far short from a play-in game. The chance at a play-in game is all we, as fans, want really. Meaningful basketball games at the end of the season. But that will have to wait another year as Detroit will only get their win total to 25. Some might call that improvement a success, some might not. 

The final part of this hot take, however, is that Detroit’s lottery luck will change, thanks to these newly found wins. The way the lottery is set up, the worst record team has a 50 percent chance at selecting at five. That’s the farthest they can slide, but the best odds fall there. Each team after them can slide further, but the odds are more spread out.

Detroit will end with not having the worst record in the NBA, or even the second or third worst, but they will still lock up a top three draft spot. As a result, Cooper Flagg, VJ Edgecomb, or Ace Bailey, YOU will be a Piston.
