3. Team Construction Part 1: Who Stays?

Fixing the Pistons roster is easier said than done and it will be necessary to make difficult choices. The first big decision is who will Langdon keep and who is gone. Floor spacing was a joke, defense was nonexistent, and the Pistons lacked any kind of reliable wing for the majority of the season. The Pistons had too many point guards, too many centers (none of whom could defend), and a lot of players were either playing out of position or were put in terrible positions to succeed.

Narrowing down who stays on a 15-17 player roster is difficult, so what Langdon really needs to decide is who of the core four (Cade, Ivey, Duren, Ausar) will stay. In theory, they could all develop together to be great, but they don't shoot the ball well enough from three to stay on the floor together, and that was proven this year. This isn't to say they're bad players, but Langdon needs to decide who he wants to build around or if he wants to be patient. The most likely choices to build around for fans are Cade and Duren, who are viewed as our highest upside players, but Langdon will have offers for the core four on the table, and it's his job to see what fits his vision.
