Leaked Pistons city edition jersey may be the worst one yet

Fans of the Detroit Pistons love nothing more than to argue about uniforms and you can’t blame them.

There’s been painfully little else to talk about in five seasons of miserable losing, so fans have resorted to the last refuge of sports conversation: The uniforms.

The Pistons’ city edition jerseys have been hit or miss, as most fans agreed that the communist- apartment-block-in-Czechloslovakia-grey Motor City number was awful but liked the red and the black ones from the last few seasons.

I won’t care until they give me the Motown version, “Hitsville USA” with colors and font from the Motown Museum, but I am long done holding my breath on that one. Why celebrate a huge part of the city’s culture when you could prop up the car industry that destroyed the city before abandoning it? I digress.

We did get some Motown merch last season, so maybe it’s a step in the right direction.

The Internet nearly exploded yesterday when some photos of possible leaked jerseys started to circulate. I should first say that I have no idea if these are real or some kind of joke, but if this is what the Pistons have on offer, fans may be upset again.

Leaked Detroit Pistons city edition jersey

Yesterday, these photos started to circulate around social media and got an instant reaction from fans:

My first reaction is that this must be a mistake, surely this is a mockup before they put some color on it, right? Otherwise, it's just like someone erased all the cool parts of last year’s Bad Boys jersey and left us with a blank canvas.

I’m not a fan of cream-colored uniforms, especially when cream is not part of the team colors, don’t like that they got rid of all the skulls on the side and hate the fact that the “City” edition has Pistons on it instead of Detroit.

The uniforms will likely be the least irritating thing about the Detroit Pistons next season, so I am not going to lose sleep over it, but this just seems boring, a step back from last season. At least it’s better than Boston’s, which isn’t saying much but it’s a victory I’ll take.

Consider this my official petition to get a Motown jersey in Detroit already, or just bring back the red ones that everyone seemed to like. At least the teal is out, which we should all be happy about as it has no place in Detroit or even the state of Michigan.

In fact, can we just remove teal from the color palette?
