The Detroit Pistons are on the road on Wednesday night against a Sacramento Kings team that will be extremely happy to be back at Golden 1 Center after a long seven-game road trip came to an end on Monday night.

Monday night’s loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers put a damper on an otherwise successful trip for the Kings, but they have a get-right spot on Wednesday as massive favorites against the Pistons.

However, are the Pistons starting to become undervalued in the betting market? Sure, Detroit is the worst team in the NBA, but the Pistons have covered the spread in nine of their last 11 games and are now 11-11 ATS as road dogs in the 2023-24 season.

Pistons vs. Kings key players to watch

Detroit Pistons

Cade Cunningham: If he plays tonight, Cunningham is far and away the top player to watch on Detroit. The former No. 1 overall pick is averaging 22.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 7.5 assists per game this season, although he’s only averaging 18.3 points per game in four games since returning from a knee injury.

Sacramento Kings

Domantas Sabonis: This could be a big game for Sabonis down low against a team that struggles shooting the ball (22nd in the NBA in effective field goal percentage). Sabonis has picked up three triple-doubles in his last four games, and he’s averaging 19,7 points, 13.1 rebounds, and 8.2 assists per game on the season.

Pistons vs. Kings prediction and pick

Could the Pistons cover in this game?

I think it’s possible, but bettors need to see if Cunningham and Bogdanovic (both questionable) can play in this game. Without them, the Pistons would be missing their two top scorers, making it extremely tough to hang with an elite Kings offense.

That being said, I do think there is some value on Detroit as a 13-point dog.

As I mentioned earlier, the Pistons have covered the spread in nine of their last 11 games, and the team ranks 20th in the NBA in net rating over its last 10 games, a major step forward from its season-long numbers.

The Kings, on the other hand, have not been great as home favorites, going just 9-11 ATS in those games, posting an average margin of victory of just 0.8 points per game.

A big reason why? The Kings rank 26th in the NBA in defensive rating at home.

If the Pistons’ top dogs are able to play, the team may keep this game closer than oddsmakers think.
