The Detroit Pistons should bring back Mike Muscala and sign a rim protector

I like what Mike Muscala has brought to this team as a veteran leader who can spread the floor as a stretch five. He’ll be available on a  minimum deal, so is a guy who they should bring back.

The offense has taken off since his addition, and while I don’ t give him all of the credit, he’s been a part of it.

But the Pistons shouldn’t be finished at center. I am worried they are going to bring James Wiseman back after failing to trade or cut him at the deadline, but hopefully Weaver has learned from that error in judgement.

The Pistons could use a veteran rim protector, someone who can come in and block shots. Mo Bamba would be an interesting option at the right price, but we aren’t talking elite talent here, the Pistons just need a decent defender who can play spot minutes block a shot and offer the rim protection they won’t get from Muscala.

Unlike this season, the Pistons can’t invest heavily in backup centers, as they wasted so much money and time on Marvin Bagley III and James Wiseman. Good teams don’t have $25 million invested in backup centers who aren’t good, so the Pistons need to spend little and target specific attributes, namely shooting and rim protection.
