The Detroit Pistons have a ton of questions hanging over them as the offseason approaches, one of the largest being what they are going to do with coach Monty Williams.

On one hand, Williams has not been good this season and you can point not just to the win/loss record but also the lack of development as evidence. On the other hand, he didn’t build this awful roster and it’s not his fault that the Pistons have had a ton of injuries this season.

There’s also the small issue of the six years remaining on his contract, as well as the fact that if the Pistons do fire him (and don’t fire Troy Weaver) they will have a hot-seat GM hiring a coach while trying to save his own job.

If I had to guess, Williams will be back, as it does seem unfair to put this season on him when there are so many others to share the blame.

Williams does have a strong reputation among players, so if he is still around Detroit, the Pistons can use those connections to help recruit free agents that Monty has coached in the past.

Aaron Holiday

Holiday played one season with Monty Williams in Phoenix and will be an unrestricted free agent this summer. Holiday is a solid backup who shoots just under 40 percent from long range and could be an option if the Pistons are looking for a veteran point guard for the bench. Holiday plays 16 minutes per game for the Houston Rockets this season, averaging 6.4 points and 1.8 assists. He’s a career backup who knows his role, so could be an option on a minimum deal.
