5 Potential Pistons free-agent targets with ties to Monty Williams
Eric Gordon
Gordon played under Williams for four seasons on the New Orleans Hornets/Pelicans. Gordon’s time in NOLA didn’t end well (just ask one of their fans about him) but he did have some of the best seasons of his career under Monty Williams.
Gordon is 35 years old at this point but is still putting up numbers and get still get buckets, as we saw against Detroit this season as he averaged 17 points and five assists against the Pistons in two games. He has player option for next season and may just stay put in Phoenix, as he is best suited for a bench scoring role on a contender at this point in his career.
Kelly Oubre Jr.
One of the many free agents the Pistons could have signed this past offseason, Oubre Jr. Instead signed a one-year minimum deal with Philly and is scoring 15 points with five rebounds per game in a much larger role than was envisioned for him when they signed him. Because of injuries, Oubre Jr has started 49 of the 65 games he played this season, not a bad bargain for a guy on a minimum deal while the Pistons were paying Joe Harris $20 million not to play.
Oubre. Jr played one year under Monty Williams in Phoenix and will be an unrestricted free agent this summer who probably won’t have to settle for the minimum this time.
