Predicting team awards for the Pistons next season

Detroit’s season begins in a few weeks, so which of the Pistons do we think will win awards, if only in Detroit?

6MOY: Simone Fontecchio

Simone Fontecchio is a difficult player to plan for, as there are rotations that Bickerstaff could elect to use and would find Tec in the starting lineup. He has the scoring, spacing, and defensive ability to be a starter, but, a majority of Detroit’s games will likely feature him coming off the bench as the 6th man. And that is a good thing. It has been quite a few years since Detroit has had enough talent where someone is relegated to the second unit because we already have too many starter level guys in the first unit.

Fontecchio can play that 6th man role perfectly. His shooting, size, and defense can truly be plugged into any lineup and play alongside anyone. Last year, Font averaged 15.4, 4.4, and 1.8 on 43 percent three-point shooting. Detroit rewarded him with an extension, one that is already one of the best bargains in the NBA. Even if his points drop thanks to the improved talent around him, I think he can improve or at least continue his perimeter shooting numbers, which makes him an absolute weapon in the second unit.
