Proposed trade with Lakers would shake up Pistons core

This would be a tough deal for the Detroit Pistons

This would be a tough call for the Pistons for a few reasons. The first is that they are painfully thin at center already and dealing Stewart without getting a center back would leave them with only Jalen Duren and Paul Reed.

Vanderbilt can play power forward and maybe eat up a few center minutes, but as I said, he stinks.

He also has four years left on his deal and Langdon has been reluctant to take on contracts that are more than two seasons. Every deal he signed this summer fit that timeline.

Vincent wouldn’t be a bad addition, as the Pistons need a backup point guard anyway and his deal only runs two more seasons. The problem is that Vincent alone isn’t enough for the trade to work, as the Lakers cannot take on the extra $5 million on Stewart’s deal.

The Pistons would prefer Jalen Hood-Schifino to Vanderbilt but his contract leaves LA $120,000 short and that might be too much to give up for Stewart even if they could find a way to make the money work.

The Pistons need extra draft picks and moving Stewart for one is a possibility, but there isn’t an obvious deal with the Lakers unless LA is truly desperate or Detroit is willing to eat a long-term deal.
