2021: “Levitating” by Dua Lipa
I’m skipping way ahead here because nothing of note happened between 2008-2021 except the Andre Drummond era and a bunch of mediocre teams that were never good enough to win a title but never bad enough to get a top pick.
The Pistons emerged from NBA purgatory in 2021 when they got the #1 overall pick in the draft. Fans were “levitating” as we dreamed of Cade Cunningham leading the Pistons back to glory.
But much like franchise-savior Grant Hill before him, Cunningham would put up big individual numbers on teams that didn’t win much and that’s putting it nicely. Since drafting Cunningham, the Pistons have been by far the NBA’s worst team. He was the centerpiece of a failed Troy Weaver rebuild, and after inking him to a max extension, he still represents the Pistons’ best hope in the Trajan Langdon era.
Are the Pistons finally “levitating?”
