1988: “Faith” by George Michael

This was the year that a young me really started hating the Lakers. If you aren’t aware of everything that happened in the 1988 NBA Finals between Detroit and LA, I encourage you to go back and read about the phantom foul, the lopsided refereeing (even Pat Riley admitted to it years later) and the FANS RUNNING ON THE FREAKING FLOOR DURING THE LAST PLAY OF A CRUCIAL NBA FINALS GAME and no one doing anything or that Magic Johnson absolutely assaulted Isiah Thomas on the play. But I’m not bitter (seethes).

But Detroit never gave up faith that these Pistons would get over the hump, and they did, the very next year.
