2005: “We belong together” by Mariah Carey
It did seem as if this was a team of destiny and did “belong together,” especially after the Pistons added Rasheed Wallace the year before and everything fell into place. Detroit appeared destined for another back-to-back title, but was thwarted by Robert freaking Horry and the San Antonio Spurs.
This was a heartbreaking season for Detroit, who were so close to winning a second title. I don’t want to think about this anymore, it’s still too fresh nearly 20 years later. I still feel some amount of pain when I brush my Rasheed Wallace jersey in the closet.
