4 Ways Trajan Langdon is already much better than Troy Weaver
#4: It’s not all on the youngsters
All Detroit’s young guys know right now is losing and how to do it together, as Weaver never gave them any help.
Far too much pressure and responsibility was put on young guys, who were never flanked by veterans who could stay healthy or contribute much, and whose development was stunted because of it.
You could see the frustration on Cade Cunningham’s face at times last season when one of his young teammates made a mistake that a veteran probably wouldn’t make. There were often games with all young guys on the court at the same time, young players who make mistakes, who turn the ball over and who don’t have the experience to carry the kind of burden they were asked to carry.
That’s how you win 14 games.
Langdon has made it so that never has to happen next season. The Pistons won’t be forced to play five inexperienced players at a time. They can always have a veteran or two on the floor, always have a shooter or two on the floor, which will ease the unrealistic responsibilities that were put on the young players.
This is not to pile on Troy Weaver, I have nothing against the man personally, but his approach was flawed from the beginning and it’s good to see Trajan Langdon avoiding some of the same traps.
