4 Buy-low trade targets for the Pistons to monitor
Lonzo Ball
Lonzo Ball hasn’t played in over 2.5 years, but is reportedly healthy and ready to go. He’s making a little over $20 million this season, a number the Bulls would love to move, though at this point they likely view Ball as a sunk cost.
He’s returning from a serious knee surgery from which no professional athlete has ever fully recovered, so Ball is still a longshot to return. But what if he does?
Ball is likely to be forced to take a lowball, short-term deal on his next contract, which could represent a great value to some team, as he’s a good player with a skillset that can fit onto nearly any roster.
How good would a healthy Lonzo Ball look running the Pistons second unit or as a 3-and-D wing who can make plays next to Cade Cunningham?
He obviously has to prove he’s healthy, and if he reaches free agency there is little chance he chooses the Pistons, as he’ll have his choice of teams if he is healthy and willing to play on a minimum deal.
But if the Pistons were to trade for him at the deadline, it wouldn’t cost them much in terms of assets and they’d have the inside track on re-signing him to a team-friendly deal.
There are too many “IF”s at play when it comes to Lonzo Ball, but he’s a player who could represent a tremendous value at some point.
