The Detroit Pistons just announced their upcoming preseason schedule: it’ll be four games from Oct. 6-16 against the Grizzlies, Bucks, Cavaliers and Wizards. Of course, preseason games don’t actually count for anything but they can still be a good chance for developing players to show their growth.

Young Pistons will have plenty to prove early in the season with rotation spots up for grabs

In particular, Ron Holland will be an intriguing watch during these preseason games. He had a terrific Summer League and fans are excited to see him carry that momentum over onto the main roster. Of course, his role is a bit different on this team than it was on the Summer League team but he showcased some skills, namely his improved 3 -oint shot, which should be able to translate well.

Other young names to watch are Marcus Sasser and Daniss Jenkins. Both are uncertain of their playing time going into next season but preseason can be a good opportunity for them to show out and secure some more minutes in the backup point guard role. It’s not just production but also playstyle, with a focus on defense and getting others involved, that the coaching staff will be looking out for.

Jaden Ivey is also a very important Piston to watch during preseason. His spot in the rotation is firmly secured as a starter in the backcourt but it will be 10 months since he last touched an NBA court when preseason starts. Even in the watered-down intensity of preseason, Ivey’s physical performance can give an indication to his overall health going into next season.

The Pistons may have to hold him back early and preseason will be the first chance we'll get to see if Ivey is ready.

Rotations and game plans won’t necessarily be finalized in the preseason, but it’ll also be interesting to see how Caris LeVert and Duncan Robinson fit into the rest of the team. As former Michigan Wolverines, they are sure to get a good round of applause when they check in during the Pistons’ sole home preseason game.

An exciting season awaits the Pistons and the first step to it will be the preseason. Starters and veterans will see limited action, but even preseason can provide some clues about how the Pistons will look lower down the depth chart.
