The Detroit Pistons' biggest domino to fall this offseason was always expected to come from within, considering the uncertainty surrounding Jalen Duren's future in the Motor City.
After separation in contract negotiations already set up the possibility of a sign-and-trade scenario for Boston Celtics' star Jaylen Brown, the writing seemed on the wall that an exit could be looming.
However, with the unexpected turn reported by NBA Insider Chris Haynes that the Sacramento Kings and Duren are set to meet at the start of free agency on Tuesday, with the hope of structuring a sign-and-trade, it sets superstar guard Cade Cunningham facing an uncomfortable reality that he'll be forced to find the pros in.

A Jalen Duren S&T will most likely bring Domontas Sabonis to Detroit
Haynes reported that a "sizable distance" in contract discussions between the Pistons' and Duren's camp led to this fallout, and after his All-NBA season was immediately impacted by a disastrous postseason run, this felt like a possible scenario all along.
With the Kings coming out of left field, though, it proves that Duren's camp has been preparing for this possibility, and with Sacramento ready to jump at the opportunity to get younger in the frontcourt, only one realistic framework of a trade makes sense.
Sacramento has been looking to move on from big man Domantas Sabonis for some time now, but between his injuries as of late and his sizable contract, the Kings have failed to find a taker.
Nonetheless, with Duren expected to land in Sac-Town, all signs point to the Kings' former All-Star big man being involved in the potential deal to land him in Detroit, according to The Athletic's Sam Amick.
Cunningham's off-court relationship made negotiations with Duren this offseason a touchy subject to begin with, and while losing a close friend may be difficult to come to terms with at first, the reality is that a healthy Sabonis will make the Pistons guard's job much easier.
Sabonis, at one point, was considered one of the best big men in the league. Not only is he a dominant rebounder, but he's a capable scorer who can not only stretch the floor, but also bang down low.
Beyond that, though, he's an extremely talented passer, who both the Kings and Indiana Pacers featured as a key piece to run their offense through during his time on each squad.
Sabonis' $45 million contract is an obvious sticking point that could be looked at as a bit disappointing for some, but he's a legitimate All-Star candidate who makes losing Duren less of a nightmare scenario.
Not to mention, there's an argument that his strengths make him better suited to be paired alongside Cunningham, given the Pistons were already plagued with a lack of playmaking outside of their star guard.
