While I always enjoy any news non-lockout related, this isn’t the kind of news I had in mind. Detroit Pistons icon and all-around good dude Ben Wallace was arrested early Saturday morning and faces a 5-year felony charge for carrying a concealed weapon and drunken driving, according to the Detroit Free Press and other media reports.

From the Free Press story:

"When officers searched his car, they discovered an unloaded pistol in a backpack in the “passenger compartment” of the vehicle, according to a news release issued by the police department today.Wallace was in a 2007 Cadillac Escalade at 3 a.m. Saturday when an officer spotted the SUV driving erratically northbound on Telegraph Road at Long Lake Road, according to the news release. Police had Wallace complete roadside testing, then arrested him on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated."

The story goes on to say that former Michigan standout Jalen Rose appeared before the same judge Wallace is set to face when he had to deal with a drunken driving charge earlier this year. Rose was sentenced to 20 days in jail and served 16.

It looks like those law skills Wallace is honing might be put to use.
