Why Khris Middleton ranks No. 13

Because the Pistons picked Khris Middleton before Kim English in last year’s draft, there was no reasonable way Middleton was going to receive a less favorable contract than English. Unfortunately, that means Middleton has a guaranteed contract for 2013-14. At this point, that extra year is only a mild annoyance, but it’s more negative than positive.

Honestly, I didn’t like the Middleton pick at the time. Sure, Middleton was hurt at Texas A&M, and that probably hurt his production. But he had no history of NBA-level production to fall back on – and really, he still doesn’t.

Middleton has played just 22 minutes in five games this season. If a team wants a player like Middleton, it could probably find someone in the D-League rather than give up something in a trade.
