Pistons break franchise record for 3-pointers in season

Reggie Jackson pushed the ball ahead and dished to Caron Butler, who made a 3-pointer from the right wing in the Pistons game against the Celtics today.

It was Detroit’s 583rd 3-pointer of the season, breaking the record previously held by the 1996-97 squad.

Stan Van Gundy prioritized outside shooting with his first free-agent class (Jodie Meeks, Butler, Cartier Martin), and the president/coach said the Pistons – who already set the franchise record for 3-point attempts in a season – could become even more reliant on the outside shot. The NBA has definitely moved that direction, and it’s nice to have someone in charge who sees the value – both for the points they produce and space they create – in 3-pointers.
