It was a runaway victory for the Detroit Pistons as they dismantled the Orlando Magic to register their first victory of the season in what could be their final ever home opener at The Palace. Tobias Harris and Marcus Morris led the way as they continued their great start to the season, leading the team in scoring with 18 and 17 points respectively.

While the Orlando Magic challenged early and trailed by just 2 points at the end of the first quarter, the Pistons completely ran away with the game by outscoring them 9-30 in the second. This was largely sparked by Harris, Morris and Ish Smith, while Beno Udrih, Jon Leuer and Aron Baynes capitalised off the bench, something that was a glaring weakness last season.

PG. Detroit Pistons. ISH SMITH. A-. Ish Smith was solid when passing the ball in the first game of the season and he was no different tonight, dishing out 8 assists and only committing two turnovers. He also greatly improved his shooting, scoring 16 points on 8 of 13 from the field. He gave up some easy points to <a rel=

C. Detroit Pistons. AARON BAYNES. B+. Aron Baynes was great off the bench tonight, dropping 13 points. He was automatic from the post as well as mid-range, going 6 of 8 from the field. He also had one vicious put-back dunk off of a Beno Udrih missed shot.

B. Jon Leuer put together a really solid game, being given more time than usual thanks to the blowout. He scored 7 points along with 9 rebounds and 2 blocks. He also took a nasty fall while fighting for a rebound, but appeared to shake it off.. PF. Detroit Pistons. JON LEUER

DARRUN HILLIARD. D. Hilliard only saw 2 minutes of action at the very end of the game, registering just a single assist. There’s not much you can say about his game.. SG. Detroit Pistons

B+. Beno Udrih showed why Stan Van Gundy signed him to be the backup point guard just days before the season started, finishing with 13 points, 2 rebounds and 5 assists. He looked comfortable running the offence for the second unit and was reliable with the ball in his hands, not registering a single turnover while shooting 60 per cent from the field and knocking down a three.. A. It was hard to find fault in Stan Van Gundy’s coaching tonight. He took advantage of the Magic’s poor floor spacing, particularly when they went with a lineup consisting of Elfrid Payton, <a rel=. Head Coach. Detroit Pistons. STAN VAN GUNDY
