The Pistons have the NBA’s eighth-worst record and narrowly avoided good news late last night.

The Nuggets, one game worse than Detroit, took the Mavericks to double-overtime before falling by one point. At least the Pistons lost to the Pacers, keeping pace in the race for the No. 7 seed in the NBA draft lottery.

Two other results – Thunder over Kings and Hawks over Hornets – went against the Pistons, but they clarified Detroit’s position.

The Pistons will finish somewhere between tied for the 6/7 seed and tied for the 8/9 seed in the lottery, and they’ll end the season:

  • Best case: 5.3 percent chance of the No. 1 pick, 18.25 percent chance of a top-three pick and the guarantee of a top-10 pick
  • Worst case: 2.25 percent chance of the No. 1 pick, 8.05 percent chance of a top-three pick and the guarantee of a top-12 pick
