Detroit Pistons All-Time list: Second-Team
By Tim Thielke
Center: Bill Laimbeer
Career average: 12.9 points, 2.0 assists, 9.7 rebounds, 0.7 steals, 0.9 blocks (12.5 seasons with Pistons)
Bill Laimbeer was best known around the league for being a nasty, dirty player who like to pick fights. And much of that reputation is deserved. But he was beloved by his teammates and fan base for bringing a physicality to the game that few around the league were willing to match. That allowed him to compete favorably with players who probably had more straight-up talent and rack up four all-star appearances along with being a key contributor on a pair of championship runs.
His toughness and willingness to bang around in the paint wooed Jack McCloskey who targeted him as a cornerstone to build the Bad Boys Pistons around.
