The Pistons and Suns are not historic rivals by any means, but there may be a little extra intrigue to this one thanks to the drama surrounding new Piston Marcus Morris’s twin brother Markieff. Recently Markieff made his displeasure known to the Suns front office regarding his brother’s trade to the Pistons, and stated that he also wanted to be traded.

In addition to that, a year ago in a game between the Suns and Pistons at the Palace of Auburn Hills, Markieff and Pistons guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope got into a pushing and shoving match. Late in the game, Caldwell-Pope took a 3-point shot that would have given the Pistons the win, but missed it. According to beat writer Vincent Goodwill, Markieff had some thoughts on KCP taking that shot:

It remains to be seen whether the Suns will accomadate Markieff and move him, so it’s possible that this matchup of the Morris twins and their respective teams may not actually happen. If it does though, there is already some beef between Markieff and the Pistons, so this could be one to watch in a possible budding cross-conference rivalry.
