Piston Powered NBA MVP Rankings: Week 5
By Duncan Smith
LeBron James has his injury-laden Cleveland Cavaliers at the top of the Eastern Conference standings here a month into the NBA season.
As has been noted in previous editions of this column, the Cavs were widely expected to just kick back and wait until Kyrie Irving and Imam Shumpert returned from their injuries, but King James has made it clear that won’t be happening on his watch.
Recently he chided the Cavs for not being as hungry as the defending NBA champion Golden State Warriors after a loss against the Detroit Pistons on November 17th, stating that it’s unacceptable for a team like the Cavaliers who have won nothing to be less engaged than the Warriors who defeated them in the Finals a year ago.
It’s clear that the Cavaliers 11-4 start to the season is not good enough for James, and he might just be right about that. The Chicago Bulls are just a game behind the Cavs, and the streaking Indiana Pacers are just 1.5 games behind first place.
