Demetrius Jackson

Another player who was a surefire lottery pick a few weeks ago that ended up tumbling down draft boards. Currently, he’s projected to go 29th overall to the San Antonio Spurs.

Why the slide? I’m guessing individual workouts may have been a factor, but his age (21 years old) likely played into his fall too.

While Jackson is a bit older for a rookie, he’s athletically gifted and a strong defender. His three-point shot could be better, but his playmaking will be a welcomed addition to the Pistons’ bench.

In the first round, teams are often looking for high upside players. Jackson might not have the highest ceiling, but he could easily develop into a solid starting guard in the NBA despite his 6’1″ height.

For the Pistons who are looking for a player to backup Reggie Jackson, Demetrius fits perfectly.

Here’s the one knock on Jackson to the Pistons–the Pistons should have an easier time filling their vacancy at back up point guard in free agency, thus, the priority may be in finding a power forward that can develop into a starter or role player in the next few seasons.
