Why the Lakers do it:
This is a no-brainer for the Lakers. They get a lock down defender, solid scorer, and excellent teammate in Caldwell-Pope. A guy who will fit in perfectly next to the Los Angeles youth movement while bringing a welcomed dose of maturity. As well, Aron Baynes and Lorenzo Brown will give the Lakers depth they desperately need in order to avoid another year of being known as the D-League all-stars.
Why the Pistons do it:
This deal only make sense if the Pistons are resigned to losing Caldwell-Pope and Baynes this summer. In this move the Pistons would get Lou Williams a proven scorer and solid three-point shooter and they would welcome back a terrific three-point shooting backup point guard in Jose Calderon. The real take away would be the draft pick, hopefully it could turn into something in the future. All in all, this trade would mainly be a move to make sure the Pistons got something on Caldwell-Pope’s way out of town.
