Why the Hawks do it:

With an aging core, this trade brings in a blitz of youth. After locking up Dwight Howard for three years, the Hawks can now surround him by a shooting pack of Harris, Bazemore and Caldwell-Pope. The added space in the starting lineup, and the ability to bring a well-rested Kyle Korver off the bench will give the Hawks exactly what they need for a playoff push.

With a stash of shooters creating space, and Schroeder’s speed off the dribble, they could see a resurgence of Howard’s pick-and-roll offense. Furthermore, with Korver, Sefolosha, and Scott hitting free agency next summer, and only $65 million on the books, the Hawks will have all the space needed to lock KCP up to a long-term deal.

Why the Pistons do it:

The Pistons bring in Paul Millsap, solidifying their all-star front court, while adding more space, improving their defense, and bringing in some veteran leadership. Stanley Johnson would get moved into the starting role at shooting guard, giving him the opportunity to explore his potential.

The Pistons would also bring in former University of Michigan standout Tim Hardaway Jr., giving him the opportunity to use his speed, hops, and three-point range to shine off the bench in front of his father and Piston assistant coach Tim Hardaway Sr.
