Why the Hornets do it:
While it would be difficult letting go of both Batum and WIlliams, the Hornets would bring in a big ole’ bag of talent. With Caldwell-Pope and Harris the Hornets would have a more athletic and consistent scoring punch. Add in the improved defense and depth, and this move would increase the peak potential of the Hornets for years to come.
Why the Pistons do it:
The Pistons make this move because it would give their team a plethora of lineups and flexibility. Marvin Williams has matured into an effective combo forward. While he may not bring the scoring punch of Harris, his flexibility and efficiency off the bench would give the Pistons even greater depth in their second unit.
However, the real reason the Pistons make this move is to acquire Nicolas Batum. Batum is incredibly well rounded; he is the Swiss Army knife of basketball players. His ability to facilitate and push the pace of the offense would create havoc for teams trying to match up with the Pistons. At this point, the major knock against his game has been his struggle to created for himself, however, on this team, surrounded by shooters, Andre Drummond and Reggie Jackson, Batum will find life is much easier.
