Why the Bulls do it:
While there may be a buzz in Chicagoland today, the hangover is sure to arrive soon. Butler, Wade and Rondo are a spacing nightmare. When you add in age, injuries, and frustrations, their defense is going to be even worse. The Bulls’ entire roster has only two legitimate three-point shooters in Nikola Mirotic and Doug McDermott. After a disappointing few months, the Bulls will be looking to start over. It is at this point they will look to retool and with Wade and Rondo on relatively short deals, they will need to bring in some youth and shooting.
Caldwell-Pope, Johnson, Baynes, and a pick will be quite a haul for the Bulls and will get them going in the right direction. Pairing Stanley Johnson, Caldwell-Pope, and Bobby Portis has the makings of a solid future rotation.
Why the Pistons do it:
This deal would finally land the Pistons a star in Jimmy Butler. He would give Detroit a go-to scorer, and his ability to deliver on both ends would help the Pistons take a significant leap into contention. While it would be painful to lose Johnson and Caldwell-Pope; bringing in a premier talent and all-star would quickly pay dividends.
