Question of the day: Should Detroit Pistons trade for Russell?
The Detroit Pistons could potentially be in the running for D’Angelo Russell in exchange for their top-12 pick. That brings us to the question of the day: Should the Pistons trade for Russell?
The Detroit Pistons might finally get their chance at a star player as it appears D’Angelo Russell is available for the price of a top-12 pick.
Even better, D’Angelo Russell is on a rookie deal, and assuming he plays well, the Pistons would be able to easily retain him in restricted free agency.
So, should the Pistons trade their top-12 pick in a deep draft for Russell, a player with a ton of upside that has been a bit of a disappointment so far?

My answer: Yes, absolutely.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the idea of drafting a Zach Collins, for example, but Russell is exactly the player the Pistons need–an all-star upside player with great play-making skills at the point guard position.
Russell’s assist numbers won’t wow you over his first two seasons, but his passing ability could be transformational for the Pistons lackluster offense. I think the arrow is firmly pointing up for him.
What’s more, he is cheap and easily to retain, as previously mentioned.
Adding Russell also gives the Pistons a chance to move Reggie Jackson and his contract, alleviating some of the Pistons cap issues.
And who knows, maybe the Pistons could get back into the NBA draft’s first round by trading him?
