The Detroit Pistons have reportedly had discussions with the New Orleans Pelicans for a trade involving Reggie Jackson, Alexis Ajinca, and E’Twaun Moore.
Today, Michael Scotto (Basketball Insiders) reported that the Detroit Pistons have had discussions with the New Orleans Pelicans for a potential trade involving Reggie Jackson, E’Twaun Moore, and Alexis Ajinca. Quincy Pondexter may also be included.

This is an interesting development, as the Detroit Pistons are fresh off a big shake-up that occurred just a few days ago. On Friday, the Pistons traded Marcus Morris for Avery Bradley.
It is unclear at this time if Stan Van Gundy has any ulterior motives planned if this trade does occur. It’s possible that this story won’t result in any moves, as is the case with many NBA offseason trade rumors. Nonetheless it is another big-time move being discussed by Pistons’ management and worth discussing.
Interestingly, the Pelicans did mull over the possibility of trading for Reggie Jackson back in February. This is a story I had forgotten about, especially with the Pelicans re-signing Jrue Holiday this summer.
Alexis Ajinca and E’Twaun Moore are not known as great players at this point in their careers. E’Twaun Moore had one year with the Chicago Bulls where he shot the ball well, but not much else. Ajinca has been a salary dump target for the Pelicans all summer.
If we were to trade Reggie Jackson now, that would leave us with either Ish Smith, Langston Galloway, or Avery Bradley as the starting point guard. E’Twaun Jackson is also considered to be a combo guard who could play minutes at point guard.
One of our editors, Duncan Smith, outlined some of his thoughts on the potential trade:
Re: trade discussion between #Pistons and #Pelicans: The only reason this trade could make any sense is if Reggie Jackson's knee is shot. 1/

*Referring to Reggie Jackson’s knee tendonitis.
Discussed terms are Reggie for E'Twaun Moore, Alexis Ajinca and Quincy Pondexter. The Pistons wouldn't save any money until 2018-19 2/

If there is any validity to this deal, it serves very little purpose other than to move Jackson at essentially his lowest trade value. 4/

If this is just a contingency, there's probably nothing pending and no reason to think the Pistons are eager to sell low on Reggie. 6/

It's a deal that makes neither team better, which is not a hallmark of SVG trades. 8/8
