Detroit Pistons: Avery Bradley for Jabari Parker could be interesting

MILWAUKEE, WI - SEPTEMBER 25: Jabari Parker

The Detroit Pistons has made Avery Bradley available. While the Pistons explore the trade market, we will do the same, only our trade exploration will be more hypothetical, and thus, less realistic.

The Detroit Pistons have decided to test the trade waters.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the Pistons will look to trade Avery Bradley in exchange for a “significant” return.

While we wait to see what manifests from this, I got to thinking about what I would like to see the Pistons net in a trade for Bradley.

Here’s what I would want:

1. A lottery pick for this year, or a pick with a great chance of being a lottery pick in the future.
2. A star player
3. Significant cap relief, plus future pick
4. A young/high potential player

(As an aside, I think the Pistons have a decent chance of getting a high lottery pick, and you can check that out here).

The trade we are going to explore involves option number 4.

This involves the Milwaukee Bucks’ oft-injured Jabari Parker, former second overall pick.

Parker, who’s had two torn ACL injuries on the same leg, has averaged 15.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists, on 49.1% shooting from the floor, and 34.1% from three in his career.

He’s also just 22 years old, and has a ton of potential.

So why would the Bucks be willing to part with Parker?

Well, for starters, Parker wants a max contract, something the Bucks were not willing to fork over.

Instead, next summer, Parker will test the free agent waters as a restricted free agent, giving whatever team he’s playing for first dibs on re-signing him

This makes him a perfect fit for the Pistons, who would have a season and a half to evaluate whether Parker could become part of its core long-term.

For the Bucks, the team could add a veteran two-way player in Bradley that might turn into a long-term piece for them.

Parker could return to action as soon as this week, but it’s debatable as to whether Parker would offer the Bucks as much production rest of season as Bradley could–and keep in mind, the Bucks have put a premium on winning now.

I highly doubt a deal such as this would ever materialize, much less be discussed, but it’s an option worth exploring considering each team’s needs.

If I was managing the Pistons, it’s certainly a phone call I would make. You never know what can happen.
