Center: Andre Drummond versus Greg Monroe?

Current Pistons center: Andre Drummond

Andre Drummond is a beast, plain and simple. Throughout his career I have gone from thinking he is the next coming of Shaquile O’neal to being nothing better than a end of the bench bum.

This year he has settled into the form where I think we will see him for several years. He will probably improve aspects of his game, but this is the new baseline for Andre Drummond.

So far he is scoring 15.2 points, a league leading 15.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.6 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game. He Drummond is doing this while shooting 53.4 percent from the field in 33.4 minutes.

If we look at his numbers since Blake Griffin suited up, he has increased his scoring, 16.3 points and somehow managed to increase his rebounding to 17.5 per game. Not to mention his steals and blocks are up too, 1.69 and 2.0 respectively. Beast.

Ex-Pistons center: Greg Monroe

The Pistons have enjoyed a great cast of back-up centers in the Andre Drummond era. Slava Kravstov, Aron Baynes, and most recently Boban Marjanovic.

They have had only one other center that, at least to some, was the cornerstone of the Pistons franchise: Greg Monroe.

Since leaving Detroit to sign with the Bucks, Monroe has faded. Its likely its a lack of personal exposure to Greg Monroe out of the Detroit market, but he went from a sought after free agent starting center to a moveable back-up.

Monroe was great in Detroit. I remember many nights of the Moose putting on clinics in back to the basket play, and whenever I see him still, that skill is just as present.

Monroe is averaging 9.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 0.7 steals, and 0.4 blocks per game. He is shooting 58.3 percent from the field in just 20.2 minutes.

Even though his numbers are down from his last year in Detroit, if you take a look at his numbers from the 2014-2015 season, 15.9 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game in 31 minutes, his number have really only decreased as his minutes have. His effectiveness remains nearly the same.

Honorable mention: Boban Marjanovic scoring 5.9 points and grabbing2.58 rebounds in 8.2 minutes.

Not so honorable mention: Aron Baynes scoring 5.7 points and grabbing 5.2 rebounds in 17.8 minutes.

So, would you rather have Drummond or Monroe?

Sorry Greg Monroe, I like the way you play, but you are no match for the beast that is Andre Drummond. Drummond is on the verge of super-stardom and should be this great for years to come. There are very few centers in this league I would like to see on the Pistons than Drummond, but Monroe is not one of them.

No question, I would rather have Andre Drummond.

What do you say?

Are there any ex-Pistons out there that you would like back?
