The Detroit Pistons would love to have a point guard like Jevon Carter. He’s good on both ends of the floor. He’d be a breath of fresh air at that position.

The Detroit Pistons will have the 42nd overall pick in the 2018 NBA draft.

Yes, it’s that time of year. We’re a little over a month away from the draft and my favorite team isn’t in the playoffs. In turn, this is what I’m going to write about.

There’s something about drafts in professional sports that give fans hope like nothing else. There’s that faint chance that whoever your favorite team selects could end up being the next Michael Jordan.

Well, maybe with a first-round pick. It’s slim picking in the second round.

There are a lot of good players in the NBA that have been second-round picks. Paul Milsap, Manu Ginobli and Draymond Green are just a few good examples.

After looking at some mock drafts (I am not an NBA Scout), there are some interesting players that could land in Detroit’s lap at the 42nd pick.

Let’s take a look at West Virginia stand-out Jevon Carter.

How Jevon Carter fits with the Detroit Pistons

Carter is the real deal. He was Mr. Everything for Bob Huggins and the Mountaineers.  He was a three-year starter in West Virginia and improved drastically in each of those seasons.

More from Draft

During his senior year, he averaged 17 points, six assists and four rebounds per game. Carter also averaged three steals per game.

Much like Zhaire Smith who was noted in the last profile, Carter is clearly committed to playing at both ends of the floor. He is an all-around guy that you want leading the point.

He is a guy who continues to impress at the draft combine so he might go before the 42nd overall selection. If he falls to Detroit, they might want to jump on that.

The Pistons have had issues for the past couple seasons at the point guard position. Reggie Jackson has been injury-riddled and Ish Smith isn’t capable of being effective long-term as a starter on this roster.

They do need a third point guard on this team that can be a breath of fresh air. Carter would fit.

Carter displays a variety of skills that the Pistons could utilize. Here some of my intial thoughts:

  • Great in transition
  • Good shooter
  • Great passer

Oh, there’s one thing I forgot to mention about Carter. He was the defensive player of the year in the Big 12 TWICE during his college career.

He’s a leader and does it all for his team. I think a lot of Detroit Piston fans would be happy to see Jevon Carter come to the Motor City.
