The Detroit Pistons have a lot of needs. One of the biggest a point guard that can come off the bench and be efficient. Tony Carr would be great.

The Detroit Pistons will have the 42nd overall pick in the 2018 NBA draft.

Yes, it’s that time of year. We’re a little over a month away from the draft and my favorite team isn’t in the playoffs. In turn, this is what I’m going to write about.

There’s something about drafts in professional sports that give fans hope like nothing else. There’s that faint chance that whoever your favorite team selects could end up being the next Michael Jordan.

Well, maybe with a first-round pick. It’s slim picking in the second round.

There are a lot of good players in the NBA that have been second-round picks. Paul Milsap, Manu Ginobli and Draymond Green are just a few good examples.

After looking at some mock drafts (I am not an NBA Scout), there are some interesting players that could land in Detroit’s lap at the 42nd pick.

Let’s take a look at Tony Carr.

Carr to the Detroit Pistons would be great fit

What isn’t there to like about this guy? Carr has done nothing but shine since he stepped foot on campus at Penn State University.

Carr was an offensive machine in his sophomore season and that earned him a first-team All-Big Ten selection in 2018. He averaged 19 points, five assists, and nearly five rebounds a game.

Carr has great size for a point guard as well. His 6-5, 205 lb frame will help him as he develops as a professional basketball player.

While watching some of his film, it’s very obvious that he’s a natural scorer. He creates a lot of his own shots and is magnificent from long range. He shot 43 percent from long range.

He makes so much sense for the Detroit Pistons. They haven’t had a third point guard on their roster that’s been reliable. Carr could be that guy.

The Pistons struggled with getting production from their bench. Carr could help that group out by playing point guard. There’s upside with him playing off the ball as well.

Carr has some flaws

Every player has some downside, however. Carr isn’t a very explosive player and doesn’t have the most athleticism on the court.

This could be a problem to what kind of game Carr has on the defensive going forward. These are the best players in the world he will be matching up against, especially at the point guard position.

The NBA is by far a point guard-driven league and Carr will have to play with some of the best competition that this league has to offer.

According to NBAdraft.net, Carr lacks explosion off the dribble as well. He can’t make a living only shooting jump shots as a point guard in the NBA. He will have to be able to get to the rim if he plans on being a consistent scorer in this league.

Overall, Carr could come on and be a great fit for the Detroit Pistons. He’s a natural scorer and has drastically improved from year to year in college.

The Pistons would be smart to take Carr with their 42nd pick in the 2018 draft.
