Jon Leuer

Jon Leuer is another major disappointment for the Pistons franchise. He signed in the 2016 offseason coming off of a great shooting season with the Phoenix Suns where he shot 38 percent from 3-point range. He was signed to be our stretch forward of the future.

Through the first half of the 2016-17 season he looked to be that guy shooting 37 percent on 3-pointers. Then he went down with a leg injury and when he returned never looked the same shooting just 24 percent on three’s for the remainder of the season.

For the last few seasons Pistons fans have been hoping to see the version of Leuer that we saw in the first half of 2016. One would assume that with health, he should have no problem snapping back into form. This clearly never happened as Leuer’s minutes diminished and he never played the same.

Even more surprising is since that time, Leuer appeared to have completely lost all confidence in his jump shot. Teams would sag off begging him to shoot and Leuer simply would not take the shot. If he did, he would take second and third thoughts about it before hoisting up a likely brick.

It truly is sad and quite the mystery what happened to Leuer. What at first appeared to be a steal of a signing turned out to be yet another bad contract that added to the resume of bad contracts Stan Van Gundy gave out, eventually motivating the franchise to move on from him.

Leuer did not get much playing time this season. However, he did have a few noteworthy games, his best being against the lowly Sacramento Kings when he put up 9 points, 11 rebound, and 3 steals.

We would have loved to see more of early 2016 Jon Leuer, but things happen and Pistons fans should be excited to see a more proven player in Tony Snell this upcoming season, whom Leuer was traded for.
