Jose Calderon

This is Calderon’s second stint with the Pistons. The first time he arrived at the tail end of the 2012-13 season. He was expected to be the starting point guard but that was a long six seasons ago and Calderon is no where near the player he was back in those days.

Calderon, who is always one of the leagues most reliable floor generals with a high assist-to-turnover ratio looked washed up on the court this season. At 37 years of age and his 16th NBA season that is pretty much the case.

Calderon is simply too old to keep up with the much younger talent in the NBA nowadays. He was signed to be a mentor, third point guard that would not see the floor too often but with injuries to Reggie Jackson, Calderon was forced to play way more minutes than would be ideal at this stage in his career.

While Pistons fans collectively cringed every time Calderon was forced to take the floor, he did put together some solid games even at his advanced age. His best game of the season came against the Celtics when he put up 5 points, 8 assists, 2 rebounds, and 3 steals.

The franchise has moved on from both their backup point guards this season signing the former MVP Derrick Rose, as well as Tim Frazier who is leaps and bounds better than Calderon as a third point guard.

Overall, Calderon has had a great career and was an excellent floor general. Father time is undefeated and after 16 long seasons it appears to be time Calderon retires from the NBA.
