Each Detroit Pistons player’s journey to the NBA
Thon Maker
The 22-year-old South Sudan native is entering fourth season and is in year two with the Detroit Pistons. Thon Maker was a late bloomer to the sport. He didn’t start playing the game into he was 13 years old. But he was an intriguing prospect, because of the raw untapped potential for kid that rarely played.
Maker attended Athlete Institute Basketball Academy in Canada, where he was heavily recruited by University of Kentucky, Florida State, Kansas, and Indiana. Although being a five-star recruit, maker opted to skip college and turn Pro. He could do this because he met the league age requirement at 19 .
Maker was apart of the 2016 NBA Draft where he was a top 10 pick selected by the Milwaukee Bucks. Maker was dealt to Detroit in a trade that saw former Pistons Stanley Johnson get the boot.
He is an incredible high-energy, glue guy who plays hard for the team. Although he has played three NBA seasons he is still, for the most part, a project player. In his 29 games as a Pistons he averaged a career high numbers across the board with 5.5 points 3.7 rebounds and 1 block per game.
If his numbers continue to go up , look for Detroit to deal him as a young bargaining chip for future trade packages.
