The Detroit Pistons acquired Svi Mykhailiuk in a trade last season, receiving minimal playing time with the Detroit Pistons. What’s to come for the guard?
Svi Mykhailiuk had a rough rookie season, which included a mid-season trade to the Detroit Pistons. The young guard continually improved in his four years at Kansas developing into a premier shooter.
That was attractive enough for the Los Angeles Lakers to select him 47th overall in the 2018 NBA Draft. After appearing in 39 games for the Lakers, Mykhailiuk was traded to the Pistons in a deal that sent Reggie Bullock to the Lakers.
This is the seventh player preview for the Detroit Pistons 2019-20 Pistons preview series, which the Piston Powered team is unveiling each week.
Mykhailiuk, who turned 22 in June, is still growing into his body. At 6-foot-8, he has an opportunity to earn reserve minutes as one of the taller wings Detroit has. The other wings include Tony Snell, who the Pistons acquired in a trade this summer, newly-signed Michael Beasley and 15th overall pick Sekou Doumbouya.
Training camp is going to be telling of what Mykhailiuk has improved. There has to be a level of trust that he’s better than his 32.6 3-point percentage suggests. The biggest sign of improvement will be his level of defense.
The Jayhawk could factor in at either wing position and see an increased role after playing 20 minutes in three games after being traded last season. None of those minutes were meaningful as all three games were determined early on.
Let’s take a look at Mykhailiuk’s rookie season.
