Detroit Pistons: 3 players who are key to success in 2019-20
By Tyler Lucas
Tony Snell, Wing
Pistons Senior Advisor Ed Stefanski made a big move the night before the 2019 NBA Draft when he traded Jon Leuer to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for Tony Snell and the 30th pick in the draft. The Pistons have long been lacking a solid wing presence that can both defend the perimeter and shoot from it, and that is exactly the void that the front office is aiming to fill with the acquisition of Snell.
Snell has been, for the most part, a model of consistency throughout his career. The veteran has never put up illustrious numbers, but he has always been a reliable shooter and a solid defender, and that is precisely what the Pistons have been lacking from their wing players. Snell has averaged a modest 6.2 points per game and only 1.0 assists per game throughout his carer, but has hovered around 40 percent 3-point shooting for the last three seasons.
As is evident, Snell’s scoring and assists per game are not quite something you write home to mom about. In fact, the highest points per game he ever averaged in his career was 8.5 in 2016-17.
Snell will need to be closer to that mark he set, or preferably even higher, in order to make a substantial impact on the Pistons. With this new role, he will more than likely be starting and getting ample playing time with a team that has long been desperate for a wing presence. These opportunities will give him every chance he needs at improving his scoring numbers, and being that solid 3-and-D type player that we would love to see here in Detroit.
