Luke Kennard

With the 12th pick in the 2017 NBA draft, the Detroit Pistons selected Donovan Mitchell Luke Kennard. Many fans were disappointed with this selection, but I believe Kennard is still one of the five best acquisitions in the past decade. Although Luke is no Donovan, Mitchell is also no Kennard. Luke is his own player with his own strengths and special abilities to bring to the team.

To stretch this example further, Luke is a better shooter statistically than Donovan Mitchell in their first two seasons.

Pistons fans would have been disappointed if Kennard went to the Utah Jazz and averaged 20 points per game and Mitchell played minimal minutes with Detroit due to opportunity. Kennard is quiet, but he is tenacious and fearless. He is not afraid of waiting for the best shot and he shoots it as soon as he finds it. He is an efficient scorer and I believe he will continue to rise and emerge as a prolific scorer over time.

Some might believe it is too early to proclaim Luke Kennard as one of the Pistons’ best acquisitions, but I believe he is already making an impact and that will only increase in time.
